The magic town.

From challenges of history to world class events.

The Town of Valle De Bravo

Pre-Mexican people’s settled in this region far before 1474 and 1479, when the Aztec chief Axayacatl conquered the region. The final jewel of the Aztec Empire before it was conquered. The Spanish mounted campaigns by seasoned generals after the destruction of Tenochtitlán. A region subdued, a lost history, and new roots began to take shape from the ruins in the form of Dominican and Augustinian religious settlements. Circa 1530s, the Franciscan Friar Gregorio Jiménez de la Cuenca founded “El Pino” a congregation settled in the valley throughout the early 1600s establishing the towns original name: San Franciscano del Valle de Temascaltepec.

After suffering greatly during the Mexican War of Independence, it faced further indigenous rebelión, resulting in the need to rebuild and prolonging the regional hardship. The village finally reached the official status of city in 1878, earning notoriety for beauty thanks to scholarly insight in the book “Valle de Bravo en la Poesía de Pagaza” by Professor Gustavo G. Velazquez. The town saw incursions by Zapatistas during the Mexican Revolution and rebuilt itself into the 20th century.

In 1937 an electrical plant called Ixtapantongo, later called the "Miguel Alemán" hydroelectric system, began construction. The Villa Victoria Dam was built, resulting in a tragic flood, and creating a reservoir extending to Michoacán. A bittersweet moment in the regional history, this dam still helps Mexico and surrounding areas with electricity and water supply.

General, president, and man of forgiveness.

Exiled and exalted, a historic man.

A man from rough history:

Nicolas Bravo Rueda serves as the inspiration for the “De Bravo” added to the gorgeous valley that now serves as the Mexico City Hamptons. His name lives on through the town and graces the name of our leather moto jacket due to his valor and historic relevance. A general in the Mexican Revolution, Bravo served alongside many historic men that formed this tumultuous history. After a shambled insurgency he was exiled to Ecuador, and as the revolution roared on he returned following a shift in power. Bravo served in many political offices, and even held the rank of president in 1838 and 1846.

Bravos most notable accomplishments can be seen in two major examples: one of valor and one of grace. He fought and survived at the battle of Chapultepec - a battle in which United States forces of over 2000 faced off against 900 Mexican Cadets. The second portrait of Bravo comes from his presidency, a time where he freed Spanish prisoners who were supposed to be exchanged for revolutionary troops - following the news that the Spanish king had executed his allies. This story quickly spread word of his graciousness, and resulted in a famed allegory throughout his career.
