Three Hidden Luxury Vacations for a Mexican Holiday 2021

Luxury Travel Guide

The holidays are a wonderful time to get away from the cold, celebrate, and relax in a private luxury fashion. We believe that when it comes to the holiday season, Mexico’s hidden gems are the best luxuries: housing beautiful experiences nestled in privacy and lacking in tourism.

This blog post breaks down three unique destinations for a private holiday in Mexico.

No. 1 Xilitla, San Luis Potosí

Hidden amongst the rural landscape of San Luis Potosí, the lush garden of Xilitla welcomes you to an oasis of stunning scenery and captivating serenity. The small town houses an 80-Acre Garden called Las Posas: the creation of English surrealist poet Edward James who lived there in the 1940s.

The garden contains a myriad of dynamic concrete sculptures, the work of over 150 laborers. Las Posas is said to be the poets vision of “the garden of eden” and is an exciting experience for horticulturists and art enthusiast alike. Stay at the same home built by Edward James and Plutarco Gastélum surrounded by the gardens at the Posada el Castillo Bed and Breakfast.

A hidden luxury beach vacation in Mexico

No. 2 Xcalat, Quintana Roo

The beaches of Mexico can sometimes be crowded, especially in over developed coasts in the North/South. However in one of the southern most regions of Mexico, a uniquely underpopulated beach awaits the daring traveler.

Xcalat is an undeveloped beach on the Caribbean coast near Belize and the southern Mexican border. We suggest Xcalat for those willing to trade a bit of luxury for a lot of privacy, enjoy the unique experience of secluded beaches near the Belize Barrier Reef: the second largest ocean reef in the world. When looking for accommodations, enjoy the home of American expat and Air Force veteran Dr. Ted Dake, The Flying Cloud Hotel.

A hidden gem in the Mexican Highlands

No. 3 Creel, Chihuahua Mexico

Roughly 3 and a half hours from the Capital of the State of Chihuahua, also called Chihuahua - begins one of the most spectacular journeys one can take. The city of creel is a Pueblo mágico, or “Magic Town” that transports you to a place outside of time. Enjoy your stay surrounded by lush mountains in the Villa Mexicana Cabins.

While one can experience all the joy of a peaceful holiday at the Villa Mexicana, we recommend the can’t miss experience of riding the Chepe Express - a train that makes a spectacular journey starting in Creel and ending in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Get a first class ticket on the train and enjoy the domed dining car that passes through mountain paths lined with trees and caverns. Ride back to Creel or stay on the Bay of Ohuria at the Casa de la Aduana Boutique Hotel for a pristine look at the bay.
