Luxury Suggestions

Whenever a leap year is on the calendar, the Spring Equinox comes on March 19th, marking the first day of spring and the beginning of more direct sunlight for the Northern Hemisphere. Natural phenomena line these dates with the blooming of new possibilities, and inspiring sights for the luxurious traveler. This season, our suggestions focus on the unique experiences that only this season can provide, and we’ve gathered 3 luxurious destinations that you won’t want to miss for this years spring getaway. Let’s get started:

"Spring won't let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again." - Gustav Mahler

Destination 1: The Superstition Mountains, Arizona

Why you should visit:

The Superstition Mountains are a range of mountains in Arizona located to the east of the Phoenix metropolitan area, giving you an opportunity to enjoy all the city has to offer while still getting away for some natural beauty. Hiking enthusiasts will be treated to a blooming display of Mexican poppies and other wildflowers. We recommend taking the three mile hike up Wave Cave Trail for some fantastic views, or for the truly adventurous - the 7.3 mile Hieroglyphic Trail up Superstition Peak. Just be sure to pack your water and sun screen.

Where you should stay:

The Phoenix and Scottsdale area has many luxurious abodes to rest your head, but our favorite has to be the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North. This beautifully designed property blends timeless old western aesthetics with vibrant Native American Art, and view of Pinnacle peak amidst the classic Saguaro cacti. We recommend the Patio Firepit Casita Room for quiet restful experience, or book a Premier Casita Room for great views of the serrated mountains. Need space for the whole family? Explore this Luxurious Desert Estate for exceptional decor and quintessential Arizona views.

Destination 2: Valle de Bravo, Mexico

Why you should visit:

Just a two hour drive from Mexico City, the Monarch Butterflies begin to awaken for their spring migration in the Piedra Herrada Monarch Sanctuary. This peaceful town nestled within a scenic valley sits a short distance from the Sanctuary, and serves as the perfect blend of meditative adventurism to flood the senses of any luxury traveler. You can relax within artisanal hotels, amble amongst the artisan markets of a downtown pulled from history, go paragliding or take the 4 mile hike to the Cascada de Avandaro. Light hikers can take in 360 degree views of the entire valley from Mirador La Peña to revel in the beauty.

Where you should stay:

The small valley town is not without quiet luxuries, if your goal is to feel lost among the trees of nature - the hotel Rodavento has everything you need. Known as a hotel, spa, and adventure complex: the hotel serves as a one stop community you’ll seldom have to leave, making room for activities, gastronomy, and relaxation all in one hidden forest oasis with a private lake. If you are looking for purely relaxation, Hotel El Santuario provides meditative experiences amidst views of the valley lake. Need the creature comforts of home and golf? Visit Hotel Avándaro, request a tee-time in their private club, and enjoy it as a park for the entire family after 5:30pm.

Destination 3: Kyoto, Japan

Why you should visit:

Looking to take a later spring break? Roughly between 20 March and 14 April in 2024, you’ll be able to see the cherry blossoms bloom in the historic city of Kyoto. A bucket list destination, Kyoto takes you back in time to experience historical links up to the 88th Emperor of Japan. Enjoy the latern lit streets among quiet temples, bamboo groves, tranquil gardens that invite you to experience all you expect when you envision japan. Beyond history, this this ancient city also thrives with world-class shopping and delicious restaurants that make it a destination for any traveler.

Where you should stay:

There is no room like the Nijo Suite within Hotel the Mitsui, Kyoto, that boasts a unique view of Nijo-jo Castle from which the suite is named. Be sure to ask about your one-of-a-kind castle tour, to see if the hotel can make accommodations for you, yet even if you don’t - the hotel offers unique experiences stoked in cultural relevance (be sure to try the Sakura Spring Yoga if you travel for the blossoms.) Classic luxury fans may opt for the Four Seasons Kyoto, while those looking for a stay outside the beaten path should look for a place amongst Hoshinoya Kyoto, for private riverside elegance that is authentically Japanese.
