The Name: Inspired by Gabriel Garcia Márquez & Magical Realism.
The term Magical Realism defines:
a literary or artistic genre, in which realistic narrative and naturalistic technique are combined with surreal elements of dream or fantasy. First used in 1925 by German art critic Franz Roh - the genre truly captivated the world near the Latin American Artistic movement of the 1940s.

In 1967, this burgeoning movement grew to new heights as history’s keen literary example was published: 100 Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Márquez. A story rife with symbolism across the spectrum of experience: life, family, capitalism, society, death, meaning, and fate. Widely considered his greatest work: it follows the tragically magical destiny of a family embroiled in an isolated town. The book calls into question motifs of family, patriarchy, and industrialism while questioning the subjectivity of reality as well as the inseparability of history from the present and future.
Before, between, and beyond his magnum opus: Márquez lived a storied life as a journalist, foreign correspondent, and creative writer, while also maintaining a rich relationship with Mexico. He maintained a residence throughout his life from 1965 until his death in 2014 while also splitting time between his home country of Columbia (from which he exiled twice), Paris, New York, and Havana. Noted for his contributions to literature, a Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1972, and a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982: Márquez continúes to influence culture today, and is noted as being “The Most Mexican Columbian” due to his love for Mexico.
His life of passion, his magical perspective, travels, principles and his dedication to craft are all reasons why we decided to name our legacy combat boot after him. Showcasing the impact of story, journey, and perspective as it influences ourselves and our culture.
